My Review on Hugo

Yesterday I watched a movie called Hugo. It is about a boy named Hugo Cabret, who is an orphan and lives in a train station in the center of Paris. As he befriends a girl named Isabelle, they both go on an adventure to solve a mystery. Hugo's dad left him a mechanical person (automaton) when he died. It's similar to a robot. Isabelle, Hugo's friend, has a godfather named George Méliès who used to be a famous movie maker. But then he gave up his dream because people didn't pay attention to his movies like before, so he destroyed everything - all the props, movie costumes, etc. He is forced to sell the film negatives to a company, which melts them and makes shoe heels out of them. This movie shows that you shouldn't give up your dreams easily. I won't spill the beans here, so you should try watching the movie.
Although the main characters in the movie are kids, the topic is more for adults and teens.

Out of 10, (10=awesome,1=bad)
I would rate it a 6.5 because the movie was a little serious at times and it was slow.

Take a Look!

Take a look at this picture! Can you guess what it is? It's a cloud hovering over an island called Litla Dimun, according to photographer Andrea Ricordi who took this picture.

Notice how the sky is mostly clear but there is only one huge cloud right on top of the island as if it chose that exact spot on the island.

A Tale of Two Children

Earlier this week, I posted information about the Lytro camera; and how unique it is from regular DSLR cameras.

Here’s an example of a picture taken by a Lytro camera~

If you click on different areas of the pictures (such as their faces) it automatically focuses on where you click. Try clicking once to refocus and click twice to zoom.

Idiom of the Week...
"Egg on your Face"
Definition: To be embarrassed for something you did or said.
Example: When my cell phone rang in the middle of class, I felt like I had an egg on my face.

Introducing the New Lytro Camera

The new Lytro camera($399 and up) is being introduced to photography lovers (like me!). Before working on his Ph. D. dissertation, Ren Ng, the founder and CEO of Lytro bought his first DSLR (Digital SLR) camera and decided to apply light field technology to it. The result was...the Lytro camera!

Usually when you take a picture from a normal DSLR camera, it takes the light from one part of the image. With a Lytro camera, it captures the light from all parts of the image.

After you take a picture from a Lytro camera, and download the picture on your Mac, (Mac is required for the Lytro application)  you can focus on any parts of the image you captured.

The Lytro camera starts shipping orders in 2012. If you want one, go to this website: https://www.lytro.com/ If you want to take a look at the amazing pictures and focusing options,  go to this website: http://www.lytro.com/living-pictures/138

The Population is Rising!!!!

I recently found out that the population was past seven billion. Most of the countries are insisting that the seven billionth child was born in their country.  But think again, the more the population increases, the worse our planet is going to get.  First of all, there will be food and water shortage. Second, there will be pollution of all sorts. Basically, we will run out on resources for the growing population.

In 1820, the population was a little more than nine million. In 1927, it was two billion. The reason for increase in population is because the world has more improved technology and inventions in medicine. Earlier, the death rates were very high because of wars, more diseases, and no medicine.
