Orlando 2014 ♡ | Day One

Happy Holidays! I will be doing journal entries daily (hopefully) during my trip to Orlando:

Today we're leaving for Orlando! I'm so excited! Unfortunatel, we won't be able to go anywhere exciting today, due to our plane's arrival time. I'm so excited to visit Disney, Universal Studios, and *sigh* the beach. I'm mostly excited for Harry Potter world because they added another mini park within it: Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express!!

Okay bye now! I'll post another entry tomorrow, where I'll be visiting Disney World.

My Stand on Feminism

First of all, many people take the word "feminism" in the wrong direction. Or maybe the word itself can have multiple perspectives. Let me start out by informing you what exactly feminism is. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, feminism means, "The belief that men and women should have equal rights and oppurtunities." Personally, I am still confused on that term. If men and women can have equal rights, why is the topic still a controversy? To be completely honest with you, I don't know. But, I do know that many people either think feminism is "women rebelling against their roles in nature" or "the view that female is the over-powering gender" or "feminists are man-haters". All three of those statements are LIES. I am a feminist. We are in the 21st century, and still, a woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. Women are treated differently than men. Sometimes it's in a positive way, but it bothers me to think of the fact that many think women are weaker, more emotional then men.

Below is a video I found on Ted Talks, and the speaker, Sheryl Sandberg, is the COO of Facebook. I have seen this speech multiple times, and I just think it is fascinating. Please watch it and remember to keep an open mind!

Thanksgiving: What It Really Means

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your four day weekend is off to a good start! I'm sure you hear this all the time, but I'm going to say it anyways. Thanksgiving isn't all about the turkey on your dinner table, but it's a time to be thankful for what you've got. In fact, it's not just Thanksgiving. The holiday season, overall, is a time to be grateful and it's a time to give back to others.

We all know the story of how the pilgrims had a successful harvest, decided to have a feast with a duck, not a turkey, and invited the Native Americans. But what is the real story? In other words, when did we decide to have a feast every year? Let's start at the beginning. The first Thanksgiving (the one with the Pilgrims and Native Americans) actually consisted of different foods that we eat today. Some of them include corn, venison, all kinds of vegetables, bread, and more. They did have pumpkin and potatoes, but didn't use them for pie or mashed potatoes, like we do today. And the first Thanksgiving was a three day festival, which was all about eating, hunting, and entertainment. About a 150 years later, our good old founder, George Washington announced the first Thanksgiving meal, but this day wasn't celebrated by citizens until the 1800s, 200 years after the Thanksgiving with pilgrims. So there you have it! Thanksgiving in a paragraph!

Like I stated earlier, this is a time to be thankful for what you have. Three of the many things I'm grateful for are:
1) My parents--I feel so lucky to have a mom and dad, because unfortunately, not everyone has one or both. My parents are the most important people in the world for me.
2) A home, basic needs (food, water, toilet)--I grouped many into one, because if I stated each separately, it would be a pretty long list. I'm thankful for heat in my home and food on my table, clothes, bathroom, etc.
3) Lastly, I'm thankful for the freedom I have. My parents give me more freedom than others I know, and for that reason, I feel grateful to be entrusted with that many privileges.

What are you thankful for? Leave it in the comments below! :)

I hope this post was fairly interesting,

How to Make Winter Festive

Am I the only person who can't decide if winter is gratifying or crummy? I love the snow and the holiday feeling, but I hate the temperature. It's only November and I've already been through twenty degree weather. If you live in Maine, this post will hopefully be helpful, but if you live in LA...isn't the weather basically same all year round? *Chuckle* Well, where ever you live, this post is very similar to the "How to Make Fall Festive" post. (Click HERE to read that.)

Food/Drinks
1) HOT COCOA. Why do I even have to explain why this is an essential? I've got two words: It's good. Very few people I know don't like hot chocolate, but if you want, sprinkle some cinnamon, drizzle some caramel, or top with marshmallows and whipped cream. Point is, customize it to your liking, but on one condition: IT HAS TO BE HOT. What's hot cocoa with the hot part?

2) Panettone has been a favorite holiday favorite of mine for approximately two years. To tell you the truth, I hated the taste of it before, but my mother always used to buy it almost every week because she loved it that much, and she still does. (Just FYI a "loaf" of Panettone is super big. Google it!) Slowly I got used to the taste, and now, I love it! Panettone is a Italian bitter sweet bread/cake, filled with raisins and candied fruit.

Shops For Holiday Decor
1) Pier One Imports is expensive but all their items are fancy, festive, and fun. This shop is one of my favorites when it comes to window shopping!

2) Walgreens. Yes, I know what you're thinking. But believe me, the items are cheap and really joyful. The quality may not be that great, but you only decorate for holidays once a year, right?

Clothing For Winter
1) Packable puffer coats are so incredibly useful in the winter. If you're going Black Friday shopping or to the mall, I'm pretty sure you might feel a little stuffy with your coat on. But will you carry it for a few hours? I have a packable coat from Andrew Marc, and I love it! It keeps me super warm when I'm outside, and when I'm indoors, I pack it in its provided stylish bag.

2) Touchscreen gloves are wonderful. I love the fact that I can wear gloves and use them on any electronics, but there's one con: Touchscreen gloves are often thin, so they don't keep your frostbitten hands as warm as normal gloves should.

Hope this was helpful,

Mockingjay Part 1: Review

I recently went to go see Mockingjay Part 1 with the same people who I saw THG and Catching Fire with, and I loved it! The movies just keep on getting better and better! This movie was very touching and emotional, because Peeta has been taken by the Capitol and District 12 is destroyed.

I won't write a summary, so click HERE for a summary. Because Mockingjay is the last installment in the trilogy and this is only the first part, I would tell others not to be over excited, because the story does NOT end here. This movie was wonderfully made, and Lawrence's acting was above and beyond. Hoffman's acting was amazing, and I was not disappointed. One thing that bothered me was that I could still sense Hemsworth's and Claflin's Australian/British accents, but if you're not like me, this fact won't affect you during the film.

My rating for Mockingjay Part 1 is a 8/10 because this movie blew my mind. I cannot explain in words. It was way better than I anticipated because it's only the first part of the last book, so I did not have high expectations. I encourage you to watch this, but before you do, watch the previous movies, or read the trilogy.

Thanks,

❅❅That Jolly Feeling❅❅

Right after Halloween, am I the only person who gets all giddy about the fact that Christmas is right around the corner? Christmas is my favorite holiday, not because I get presents, but because I love seeing all the dazzling bright lights, the elegantly decorated evergreen trees, the silvery reds and greens everywhere I go. I live in a state that has a four season climate, so we get hot, humid summers and cold, harsh winters. Because of the winter, I haven't made up my mind whether I like snow or not. But then, what is Christmas without snow?

Below are my favorite holiday images to look at: (NOTE: I did not take these pictures!)

Christmas time for me is all about music. Below are my favorite Christmas songs:
1) All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
2) Last Christmas by Ariana Grande
3) Carol of the Bells by Pentatonix
4) Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson
5) Favorite Things by Kelly Clarkson

I hope this helped you get in the Christmas and holiday spirit! Now on a more serious note, I just wanted to remind you that there are only less than two months of 2014, so to end the year positively, do something for someone! It doesn't have to be a lot, and you don't even have to know the person! Be kind and giving this holiday season, and you'll feel good too.

Thank you for reading!
Until next time,

My Review on Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer (an adaptation of a French graphic novel) is an undoubtably well-made film by director Bong Joon-ho, with male lead Chris Evans. As a fanatic of Evans, I certainly enjoyed his acting in this adventurous sci-fi.

This film takes place in the future where the entire planet has been frozen due to a chemical. The human race is almost extinct, but some have survived. The lucky survivors live on a train and the society on the train is very similar to the Hunger Games trilogy society. I don't want to spill the beans, so I won't say what happens on the train. (The poor basically have to fight their way to the front of the train where the wealthy live.)

There are many talented actors in this movie and I truly admired their performance. This movie has a really meaningful theme and would encourage all sci-fi and/or action-packed movie lovers to watch this film. It is rated-R for language, violence, and some disturbing images due to violence, but as a young teenager, I think mature youngsters that can easily handle frightening fighting and bad language will really enjoy this movie. Overall, this movie really changed my view on society and people's way of life.

Fun Fall Photography

Bonjour readers!
I recently went to an apple orchard (and did not pick any apples, but bought apple cider donuts instead), and thought I'd do a little photography, because the last time I uploaded some pictures were from my Alaksa trip in July. (Click HERE to see the post about my trip.) So...here they are and I hope you enjoy them! ♡

Just the trail I was walking on...hehe!

Some apples (maybe rotten) on the ground. Tried to get the perfect
aperture and shutter speed but failed miserably. :P

The only pumpkin I could find that wasn't rotten
and/or wasn't taken over by an army of flies!

Beautiful autumn colors.

You caption this and leave it in the comments!

✻5 Ways To Have a Better Lifestyle✻

1) Organic food makes a huge difference in your life. Not everything has to be organic, for example, bananas, or fruits/vegetables you peel don't have to be organic. But milk, meat/poultry/seafood, eggs, and fruits like blueberries, strawberries, etc, should be. Click HERE for more information concerning organic food. Click HERE for what not to digest, when shopping for produce.

2) Exercise! A good amount of working out each week is about three and a half hours, so basically half an hour a day. Now, I understand that some of you might not be able to get that much, like me. I probably only exercise only two hours a week, but I try to get some fitness time into my schedule. Some great workouts are jogging, curl ups, yoga/meditating, or push-ups. And have a regular schedule and a separate time period, just for exercising. For more information, click HERE.

3) Candles are amazing. I love them. But, when you inhale the scent of a candle, you take in the chemicals, so the best option are the candles from the co-op. For more information, click HERE.

4) When you go to sleep at night, put your phone on airplane mode, otherwise, the radioactive waves affect your brain, which lead to brain cancer. Also, when talking on your cellphone, use the microphone on your headphones, so your phone is farther away from you, not directly next to your head. For more information regarding cell phone use, click HERE.

5) Doing all of the above is very important for your body. But socializing is also important for your brain, so therefore, this leads me to my fifth and final tip: socialize more! Plan get togethers for your friends and family, and/or get involved in the community. In other words, don't be an introvert! Click HERE for more information.

Have a great day,

Room Organization♨ & Room Decor Ideas

For just tiny random things, place them in a jar.
For markers or something like that, I bought a small bucket from Target for $1.

For more "pizazz" in your room, I bought a bowl from India,
but you could use any bowl, obviously, and I also bought battery operated christmas
lights, which I believe, can be used all year.
What's fall without candles? Some candles can definitely spice up your room.
I bought the star candle holder at IKEA for $.70 in the Christmas section, but I plan to use that all year. :)

This wasn't much, but I hope this inspired you for more ideas!

Post "Event" Depression & How To Get Rid Of It☁︎

So if you read my last post about the SLAM concert, you could probably tell that I enjoyed it very much. In fact, I've been looking forward to that concert for a really long time. Recently, I've been feeling a little down, so that's where post event depression steps in. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, so I kind of know my way around this problem. For other people who get upset that a major event has already passed, I am going to give you ways to get rid of it!

1) There is always something after a major event. Look forward to that! If you can't think of anything, there's always the weekend! Even if the future event is far or not going to happen for another six months, you can always look forward to that. For example, am I not the only one looking forward to Mockingjay Part 1, which is coming out in November? Look forward to the small things, and don't dwell on the past. If you are seriously out of ideas, and you like reading my blog, then look forward to my blog posts! *wink wink* :D

2) If you took pictures or videos of the event that has passed, take a quick look at the videos or pictures, it'll make you feel like you're there!

3) Read, watch a movie, clean your room/house, DO SOMETHING that'll get your mind off of the past event. For me, well, I have school, so that takes my mind off of the topic of about eight hours. My point is, do not be bored.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful! ♡

SLAM Concert

I recently went to a Bollywood concert called the SLAM Concert, and I cannot express in words how much I enjoyed it. I got the opportunity to see famous and legendary people in the Bollywood movie industry such as Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and many more. There was a lot of dancing, music, and the actors were really funny! After the concert, I just remembered how much I loved Bollywood, because I used to watch Indian movies when I was little, but I rarely watched them until now. If you're new to the Indian culture or love watching foreign movies, I encourage you to watch a Bollywood movie, whether it's on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or borrowed from the library. I hope you enjoy the trailer I created regarding the concert!
Thanks for reading and watching,

High School Survival Guide

Hey CityLover readers!
I recently started high school, and I'll admit, I hate it. So I decided to write a post for other teens struggling with this problem, but also for myself.

STUDYING
1) Flashcards help me a lot when I'm studying for a test. Because I truly despise writing, I downloaded an app called "StudyBlue", which is an online flashcard maker. You have to have wifi to create cards, but you can study offline.

2) If I have a quiz over one section of my textbook, I'll either read or skim the section one more time, making notes on a sticky note and plastering it on the page/section of the page it's referred to.

3) Have a friend over and study together! If you think you guys are going to get distracted, study with a parent (like what I do). They might push you past your study limit, but that's what parents do!

SOCIAL PROBLEMS
1) First of all, ignore everything everyone says. Yes, I know it's easy for me to say, but I go through this everyday, and I try to be happy and think about the positives.

2) Don't be too nice. You heard me. I've tried being nice all my life, but it hasn't gotten me anywhere. Instead, of other people being nice to you back, they might start picking on you, so always have a few witty comments up your sleeve. But on the other hand, don't be a bully either! Be kind most of the time, but when YOU start to feel bad, YOU have to stand up for yourself.

3) Talk to a trusted friend or parent about your problems. They'll listen, and do everything they can to comfort you. If you don't want to talk to anyone, I got a free app called "Day One" (it might not be free anymore, but I don't know), and it's kind of a journal app. It sounds kind of cheesy, but it helps.

TV Shows I Recommend

During the summer, most people binge watch TV shows on Netflix, due to the boredom. I actually didn't binge watch a lot, but yes, I watched more than I usually do in the school year :D.

1) TV Show: Sherlock, TV-14
Why I like it: Sherlock is one of my favorite mystery shows, because you're always on the edge of your seat during every single second of each episode.
Duration of episode: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Parent's Guide: In my opinion, this series is appropriate for people 13 years old and older. There is a lot of swearing, some sensuality, many uses of drugs and alcohol, and the general topic that wouldn't be understood by children. But it's suitable for young teenagers.

2) TV Show: Once Upon a Time, TV-PG
Why I like it: OUAT is another one of my favorite fantasy shows, because it has a little bit of each genre and the story line is very gripping and well thought.
Duration of episode: Approximately 45 minutes
Parent's Guide: I think this show is suitable for kids 11 or 12 years old+. There isn't too much swearing and some sensuality.

If you know their fairy tails, this is the show for you!

3) TV Show: America's Got Talent, TV-PG
Why I like it: AGT is my second favorite national "talent" search show. (My first is The Voice, but the new season premiers on Sept. 22) It consists of magic shows, comedy, singing, dancing, and everything you could dream of.
Duration of episode: It varies really, but about an hour to two. Obviously, it's not on Netflix.
Parent's Guide: This show is appropriate for children of all ages, but the comedy isn't. Because it's a reality show, you never know when people are going to swear. But overall, you will find most talents amazing and it will blow your mind!

My Top 15 Special Cruise Tips

To look at my post about my Alaska trip, click HERE.
  1. When docked at a destination, purchase 4 or 5 water bottles, each costing about a dollar. In the cruise, yes, you get water, but if you're thirsty in your cabin, water costs $5 a bottle, or you can walk all the way to the cafeteria, just to get some water.
  2. There were only two plugs in my cabin, so pack a outlet extension.
  3. Pack an extra memory card, just in case. I used up a 16 GB in one day, because of the videos I took. I packed another 32 GB.
  4. Bring a book, iPad, or something to pass the time. Sometimes, life can get kind of boring on the cruise.
  5. MONEY. I guess that's pretty self explanatory...
  6. This isn't really a tip, but more like a fact. Internet on a cruise costs about $45 for 30 minutes. So it's not really a great deal. Cell phone service in Alaska isn't that great, either. There is no LTE and barely enough 3G.
  7. Pack about two sets of formal clothes, because there were a couple of nights where we had to dress accordingly. Some people wear formal every night to dinner, but it's not required. Only for two nights.
  8. Bring your own camera and take your own photos, unless you want to pay for the pictures. On the cruise, random workers with a camera offer to take your pictures, either at dinner, in front of a scenic background, or with someone dressed up as an animal. You can later pay for those pictures, just as you would at any theme park, etc.
  9. There is a library onboard, so if you forget a book, or are bored to death, you can find something to do in the library. There are any books there, including one of my favorites, HARRY POTTER!
  10. There is no need to bring cards, chess, or checkers, because there is a "Card Room" on the Cruise, and it provides many fun games to play.
  11. If you're planning on going to Alaska in the summer, pack long pants or capris because you never know what the weather's like. I wore long pants for most of the trip, because of the temperature. I would advise to pack some shorts, if you're that type of person.
  12. Here's another fact: almost all of the cruise workers are Indian, Asian, and few are European. Just a fact :). All of the cruise members are super friendly.
  13. Fact: Deck 13 does not exist on the cruise. Ironically, it's fact #13.
  14. Bring your swimsuit, you might want to visit the hot tub.
  15. I get seasick and carsick, but I didn't fall sick on the cruise. It travels so smoothly, that you won't notice. (Unless you look outside)

My Travels to Alaska

Plane in Juneau, Alaska
I recently went aboard a cruise that takes you to three cities in Alaska and Victoria, B.C. in Canada. The cruise, I'll admit, was a bit boring, as a teenager wouldn't find any time passing activities to do besides watch free on-demand movies, eat, read in the small, but beautiful library, and attend magic and juggler shows. But, from an adult's perspective, the cruise is heaven. There are endless activities for grown ups. I hope you find this post helpful and engaging and that you admire the pictures that were taken on this trip.

P.S. Click HERE for my special cruise tips.

Day 1
An elegant sunset I happened to encounter on my first evening on the cruise.
So, I guess it was pretty rainy and windy on the second day.
Allow me to add cold, as well.
The first day was pretty uneventful. The cruise port was in Seattle, a wonderful city, I might add. The first Starbucks store is located there, along with a wonderful downtown library, many shopping stores, and of course, the space needle. Unfortunately, I only stayed there for about 12 hours, so obviously I did not get to tour as much. The check-in process is just horrible. It takes a couple of hours, but once I got on the ship, I felt a sudden wave of relief. The hard part was over. The room that i had was pretty small, compared to a normal hotel room, but the view from the balcony was grand. The ship also provided free on-demand movies for both children and adults. We were still at sea during the second day.

Day 3
We finally reached Ketchikan, Alaska, a gorgeous city. Getting off the ship isn't too time consuming, nor is getting aboard. We first walked around the city, shopping here and there. Later, we got aboard another small boat, where the marine biology tour was. (I might do another post on that...) If you're a foreigner and cannot speak English, I do not recommend this tour. The tour guides speak English, and many foreigners found this tour boring. But I enjoyed this tour. We saw and touched starfish, crab, and saw the magnificent bald eagles fly past and catch their prey. The eagle watching was probably my favorite part of the tour.

Welcome to Ketchikan!

Add caption

Here's an octopus I saw during our marine biology tour in Ketchikan.
Day 4
Well, on the first day in Alaska, I filled up a 16 GB card...obviously something I've never done before. :) On the morning of the fourth day, we were still at sea, but we went through a "scenic route", where the water was bright as the sky and the mountains were super tall and the sight, altogether, was just to die for.

Day 5
On the fifth day, we arrived in Juneau, Alaska. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't so nice that day. It was foggy, misty, and very rainy that day. Because of this, I couldn't get the pictures I were hoping for. We shopped for a while, then we went on a tour bus that took us to see a big glacier.

Juneau, Alaska.

Day 6
On the sixth day, we docked in Skagway, Alaska, one of my favorite destinations. This day, I believe, was a fairly successful photography shoot, as the weather was just pleasant and the train tour I went on was splendid. Here are some pictures I took.
Skagway, Alaska
Below are pictures taken from our train tour.

Cloud puff, anyone?

Ah, our beautiful ship.

This was later that evening, from my room.
Day 7
On the seventh day, we reached Victoria, Canada, our final destination. We only had about 6 hours there, so we visited the famous garden and roamed in downtown. I highly recommend the garden, it was huge and the flowers were dazzling and exquisite.

Independence Day 2014

Here are a few pictures of last night's vibrant fireworks! Hope you enjoyed your Independence Day!
